PS&D Article Submission Guidelines

Selecting a Topic
PS&D’s readers are interested in in-depth treatments of subjects important to plumbing engineers and designers throughout their professional careers, including domestic water heating, drainage systems, emergency fixtures, engineering concepts (formulas), fire protection, forensic engineering, high-rise systems, hot water systems, medical gas, pumps, special systems, and venting systems. To discuss topics with the managing editor, call 708-426-5427.

Preparing the Manuscript
E-mail articles as Microsoft Word files to Gretchen Pienta, managing editor, at gpienta@aspe.org. Length is flexible, but columns typically are approximately 1,500-2,000 words and feature articles typically are approximately 3,000-3,500 words.

Provide all graphic elements in two ways: (1) embedded within the Word document to show their recommended placement within the article and (2) as high-res (at least 300 dpi) JPG, TIF, or DWG files. Articles must contain the author(s) proper name, along with his or her professional designation(s), company name, job title, and contact information (phone and e-mail), as well as a color headshot (if available) to run with the author’s bio at the end of the article.

The submittal deadline for a specific issue shall be that indicated by the PS&D managing editor at the time of assignment. Articles will be published within one year of submittal, with the publication date at the discretion of the managing editor.

Editing and Review Process
All articles will be edited by the managing editor to meet PS&D’s style and space requirements and by PS&D’s technical editors for accuracy.
PS&D does not publish articles about proprietary products or technologies. All promotional and proprietary material, such as a company name, product name, or patented technology, will be removed from articles prior to publication.

The publisher, managing editor, and graphic designer reserve the right to run the article with or without one or more related graphic elements—regardless of whether or not one or more are sent.
